Eduardo and Freda Paolozzi in 1951, photographed by Nigel Henderson.
We’ve just discovered an audiorecording of Paolozzi presenting his Desert Island Discs on BBC Radio 4 in 1990. How bizarre and wonderful it is to hear the man talk about his love for “Have You Met Miss Jones?” and Django Reinhardt’s “Sweet Georgia Brown.”
Even more wonderfully weird is this episode of Great Lives, where the restauranteur Antonio Carluccio nominates Paolozzi as his episode’s subject. Among its pleasures is a moment’s audio of Paolozzi cooking rabbit, and tales of the sculptor’s prodigious appetites, sartorial choices (smeared duck sauce on his tie…), and boundless creativity.
